When you say goodnight to Momma
Be sure to hold her tight,
Because the battle that she's fighting
Isn't really worth the fight.
There are times that we forget
When they get old and gray,
Their bodies can't fight off their ills
Like it does back in our day.
When you say goodnight to Momma
Gently stroke her hair,
Hold her hand and rub it softly
Then assure her that you're there.
Then if her eyes should gently close
But her smile's still there to give,
You'll know she's gone to a better place
For she just lost the will to live.
When you say goodnight to Momma
And your eyes shed many tears,
Give thanks to God she lived
For all those memorable years.
Then at night when you lie down to rest
And then say a prayer or two,
You can say goodnight to Momma
While she's smiling down at you.
